The department will fulfill the mission by the following actions:

Our fire department's mission is to preserve and protect life and property from fire and other catastrophes both natural and man made, provide education and training to the public in the area of fire prevention and aid in the determination of cause of fires in the City of Avon Park.

· Provide fire suppression-rescue and emergency response capabilities with adequate

staffing, apparatus and equipment

· Provide fire prevention services including plan reviews, public fire education and fire

investigations.

· Act as lead agency in an integrated emergency management system commonly referred

to as the Incident Command System.

· Provide initial response capabilities, assure public safety and perform remedial actions at

hazardous materials / waste incidents

· Respond to requests for Mutual and Automatic Aid from surrounding communities.

Provide personnel proficient in the duties of firefighting and rescue operations.
Maintain efficiency in emergency operations through careful planning, organization and use of resources.
Reduce fire losses due to arson, negligence or code violations.

· Comprehensively train all firefighters to handle all types of emergencies to which they may respond in a safe efficient manner.

· Provide education presentations to the public on fire safety and fire hazard awareness.

· Ensure the safety of firefighters by adhering to accepted operating procedures and providing adequate personal protective equipment.
